WHAT ABOUT TEMPORARY WORK?
I spoke with an american girl today, Shelley, 24, coming from Minnesota, United States. She is looking for a job in Italy at the moment, and I was trying to explain her what's all the fuss about temporary work in Italy. I told her that young people in Italy find more and more temporary jobs and that makes them anxious about their future. In the past people here used to think of a job as something that will last for their whole lives. She was listening to me wide-eyed and with a funny face. "So, what?", she said. Well, you know, this has become a big issue in Italy, I pressed on. But she couldn't understand. "Well, I have alredy had different jobs in my life, and as a student I used to do all sorts of different jobs back at the University", she answered. I tried to make it a little clearer saying that the opposite of a temporary job is when you work for a firm and cannot be fired, no matter what. Was she surprised! I found myself in the akward position of having to explain the torments of italian young people to a person that regarded all this only as a bigger opportunity. Something positive, after all. Which is what I mostly think! "More temporary work means more opportunities" she concluded.
I know, I know, our culture, our tradition is different but.... Has any young Italian ever tried to talk about it with an american guy? Or with a british, irish or northern european, for that matter. Why not try?

chiedi a Shelley come le banche trattano un precario negli USA alla richiesta di un mutuo.
E chiedi di provarlo a fare in Italia.
Chiedi a lei qual'è la percentuale sullo stipendio di quello che le rimane dopo aver pagato affitto, tasse e amenità varie.
Se come penso la situazione è migliore all'estero, posso anche capire che un lavoro precario è una opportunità.
Altrimenti rimane un coltello, ma il cui manico è solo sempre da una parte. Conosco laureati di grossi enti, con incarichi di resposabilità, che sono precari a 38 anni, dopo 10 anni di lavoro..oddio..vorrà dire che stanno bene..oppure che non trovano altro?
Shelley, oltre a tutto quello che spendono gli italiani per vivere, paga anche le rate del prestito che aveva preso per poter frequentare l'università. Questo vale anche per la mia amica Solfrid (Norvegia). Il mutuo non lo chiedono, perché vanno a vivere in affitto, magari insieme ad altri giovani. Neanche loro possono permettersi una casa da soli a 25 anni. Non hanno la macchina, viaggiano in autobus. Shelley ha già trovato lavoro in Italia. Ma non ha accennato al fatto che fosse stabile o temporaneo. E' veramente impossibile?
credo che bisognerebbe andare a vedere le statistiche, più che i casi personali. Secondo te in Italia i giovani sono felici del proprio precariato?
Ossia, per capire, stai dicendo che tutta questa insoddisfazione non è giustificata?
